The SCOPE Alliance releases Carrier Grade Linux™ profile version 1.2

The Alliance updates its Carrier Grade Linux™ Operating System Profile focusing on perceived gaps in existing specifications

Piscataway, New Jersey, April 19, 2007 - The SCOPE Alliance, in close co-operation with the Linux community, today announced the latest update to Carrier Grade Linux™ Operating System Profile which includes an assessment and prioritization, from a NEP perspective, of perceived gaps in the existing Carrier Grade Linux specification. SCOPE also updated its Technical Position Paper to reflect the changing requirements of the leading Network Equipment Providers.

Following the publication of the initial Carrier Grade Linux™ profiles, versions 1 & 1.1, published in 2006, the SCOPE Alliance created a companion document, version 1.2, which describes & prioritizes the requirements in the Linux Foundation’s Carrier Grade Linux™ Specification 4.0.

The updated CGL Profile includes a prioritized list of requirements and a description of functions the NEPs view as critical in a Linux Operating System distribution used in Carrier Grade base platforms when creating Control and Service Plane Network Elements. Together, Scope CGL Profiles 1, 1.1 & 1.2 describe the mandatory CGL Specification 4.0 features as well as “gaps” in the specification. Gaps are features & functions that are necessary to support Carrier Grade Base Platforms (CGBP) for NEPs.

Linux profiles (Versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) are available immediately and may be viewed and downloaded from the document area of the SCOPE Alliance website http://www.scope-alliance.org/technical-documents

The SCOPE Alliance has also updated its technical position paper (Scoping the SCOPE – Closing the Gaps of Open Carrier Grade Base Platforms). This update, version 1.1, contains adjustments to the carrier grade base platform reference architecture and also refines the SCOPE Alliance’s areas of near term emphasis in the context of this architecture.

The updated Technical Position Paper can be viewed and downloaded from the SCOPE Alliance website. http://www.scope-alliance.org/technical-documents
