Looking Forward to a Greener Future

SCOPE Alliance will continue to address power management this year with a focus on helping the telecom industry become more "green." SCOPE plans to identify areas for the ecosystem to develop energy-saving measures for high-availability servers. During 2009, the organization will release its first white paper on power management, describing how power saving features that exist in normal IT industry servers can now be used in high-availability servers. The white paper will explain how these features can be leveraged for telecom and identify areas where standardization is still needed.

Reflecting on Past Accomplishments

In 2008, SCOPE released its newest Technical Position Paper, The SCOPE Alliance – Influencing the Agenda. The paper provides a perspective on the SCOPE requirements for network elements, allowing COTS component vendors and industry organizations to better meet NEPs' needs.

During the past year, SCOPE also tackled virtualization. The organization released a package that contains three white papers that address different aspects of virtualization, including the State-of-the-Art, Use Cases and Requirements of virtualization. The group also released its Environmental Profile that delineates environmental requirements of the world telecommunications market for network element equipment.
